I first saw the Charlotte Tilbury Instant Magic Facial Dry Sheet Mask online, with someone using it over the top of their makeup, and I thought to myself ‘what is this lunacy, why the hell would you use a sheet mask over your makeup?’. Not quite comprehending that fact that this isn’t your average sheet mask. Having never used any of Charlotte Tilbury’s skincare before I don’t really have anything to compare it to. What I do know is that it’s unlike anything I’ve tried before.
The first thing that struck me was that it comes in a resealable packet. What a genius idea! Why don’t all sheet masks come like that? Especially the wet ones! I know it’s probably for some hygienic reason, but a girl can dream. This mask you can actually use up to three times which makes the £18 price tag a little easier to bear. The second thing is that this mask is completely dry. I know the title should have given it away. But when I touched it and put it on my face I was a bit sceptical at how it would actually do anything.
Out of the packet, it looks a little scary and kind of reminded me of Mrs Doubtfire when she ends up getting that cream all over her face. That’s subsequently what I ended up looking like. There are four loops, two on either side of the eyes and two nearer the chin, that you loop around your ears for the ultimate comfort/skin to mask contact. This again was a new experience for me and I warn you now – you will look a little insane wearing it.
After it’s been sitting on your face for 15-20 minutes, you still can’t really feel it doing anything. It’s when you take it off you can definitely feel sense something on your skin. How it got there will forever be a mystery to me. The Charlotte Tilbury website says that it reduces wrinkles, smoothes, lifts, brightens and hydrates. Which I do kind of agree with. From the one time I’ve used it so far, looking in the mirror afterwards I could see a bit of brightening and I guess the oily sensation it leaves on afterwards would do some sort of hydrating.
Overall, I’d say that I’m going to have to give it a couple more goes before I’ll really love it. Yes, it’s quicker, cleaner and easier to use than your average sheet mask. But I don’t know if it can live up to the hype it’s been given. Definitely worth a try, especially if you haven’t tried anything like it before.
It’s opened me up to a whole new world of face masks! Are there any other dry sheet masks I should try?
